SALTBUSH FRUITS
In all the colours
of a child's marbles
only knobbly as older knees
saltbush fruit ripen off early green
into yellow variations on composer's red
to compositions in bright saline berries
that please the willing fingers that pick
them and hands that punnet-cup them
for more than their unsweet taste
on a well-fed tongue.
